The institute formally launched its official web site www.firiindia.com today in
order to widen its reach amongst the worldwide forging industry, research agencies,
associates, vendors and job seekers. The web site provides the information on the
infrastructure available, various kinds of testing to be undertaken, research
activities and training being offered by the institute. At ARAI - FID, the main
objective is to promote research and other scientific work connected with the
design, development, testing of forged assemblies and to impart training to the
personnel from the industry on Techno-managerial skills. "We are confident that our
web site will facilitate wider awareness on the services being offered by us and
build a platform for interaction with all prospective customers, researchers and
associates" stated Mr. Sukhdev Ganotra, the Director of the Institute.

About ARAI - FID:
ARAI - Forging Industry Division is an autonomous body jointly promoted by the
Ministry of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises, Government of India; Automotive
Research Association of India (ARAI) and Association of Indian Forging Industry
(AIFI). This project is to set up a Research & Development Centre along with
Product Testing and Validation Facilities for the Indian Forging Industry. This
Project is coming up at Chakan MIDC, District Pune, Maharashtra, India. ARAI - FID
is going to be shortly renamed as Forging Industry Research Institute of India i.e.,
FIRI.

This Center supports the Forging Industry by taking up research work for Product
Engineering and Cost reduction that would provide tremendous benefits to the
industry. The Centre will also guide the industry on latest technologies and
standards besides enabling them access to state-of-the-art certification, testing
and training facilities and thus build a strong "Made in India" brand for the
industry in the global market. R&D Centre shall have in-house capabilities for
Simulation of forging processes, 2D and 3D Modelling (CAD); Finite Element Methods
for Analysis (CAE) and Computer Aided Machining for tool path generation and
optimisation (CAM).

The testing infrastructure includes a Fatigue Testing Laboratory catering to testing
of forged components using conventional Servo-hydraulic test systems and ultra
modern Electro-dynamic test systems. Metallurgical Testing Laboratory focuses on
mechanical, chemical, microscopic and ultrasound aspects of forging material
testing, evaluation, research and development.

ARAI - FID is fully equipped with a Training Centre to provide training in all
aspects of technical, managerial and other areas related to the Forging Industry.
Variety of courses are being derived in order to develop the Techno-managerial
skills of the people from the industry after taking into consideration the demands
of the industry, opinions of the experts and evolving technological developments in
the Industry.
